Math Glossary

I speak math every day in my class. Learning  the language of math can be frustrating for some people. Here is a solution.

MathTerms

By Andy Felong

MathTerms is an illustrated glossary of mathematics terms in English and Spanish. The app includes almost 1,000 entries for middle- and high-school mathematical concepts. Millions of students have had access to this glossary, and its colorful, annotated illustrations, for over the past five years. It is now available as an iPad application.

I hope to see this as an iPhone app soon!

Interactive Integers - Addition and Subtraction
By TicTapTech, LLC

This app provides two fun interactive methods for learning and understanding addition and subtraction of positive and negative numbers. The color tile model and number line model are two of the most common classroom methods for teaching integers. These methods help students visually understand integer concepts instead of relying only on memorization of rules.

Number Line
Number Line is an educational game app to help students learn about fractions, decimals, and percents by ordering equivalent fractions, decimals, and percents on a number line. The app features multiple levels where the player must drag circles with either a percent, decimal or fraction onto a number line in the correct sequence. A score is earned based on the time it takes to put all the circles in the correct order (faster is better), plus points for each correct placement, minus points for each error.

Motion Math HD
Developed at the Stanford School of Education, Motion Math HD follows a star that has fallen from space, and must bound back up, up, up to its home in the stars. Moving fractions to their correct place on the number line is the only way to return. A recent controlled experiment showed that by playing Motion Math HD, learners improve their ability to estimate fractions and their attitudes toward math.
